NWFA Certifications: Professional Installer, Sander and Finisher

Every business has its story. How it came to be, what steps it took to get there, and the steps it’s taking to keep moving forward. My story starts with my truck and I. In the beginning, I decided to be my own boss, but looking back now, based on the experience I had with owning a business, I have to say it took a lot of courage to do what I did, and I realize some may even call me crazy. Like any other goal one has in life, mine took a lot of work, dedication, ability to explore the unknown, and desire to apprehend something new and discover as much as I can about it. In other words, I had a ‘want’ to progress and be the greatest.

I found the NWFA, National Wood Flooring Association, to be a great fit for me; professionally, it provided me with an educationally-inclined inside look to the hardwood flooring industry, while also helping me develop the business I had just started.

Soon after I became closer with the organization, I realized I had a lot to learn about installation and refinishing techniques, as well as the new technologies, equipment, and materials that were to be used in this field of wood-working.

The NWFA technical education sessions provided me with the opportunity to advance my knowledge and expertise. I am proud to announce that these courses provided me with the means of attaining certifications as professional hardwood floor sander and installer. Since then, I have been attending every year, and I am very glad I am able to receive these certifications!

As of right now, I must make an annual participation in one of the courses offered by the NWFA, in order to keep my certifications. To me, this is one of the things I look forward to during the year. There are between three and four days of very productive work; we learn about the most top-notch materials, products, and equipment, and meet with other contractors. This way, we all have the opportunity to share our ideas, tie friendships, bond through new business relationships, and find answers to problems we encounter every day.

Have a look at the courses I have participated in every year, starting with 2010.

Installation, ‘The Next Step’ – April 2010, New York

Professional Sanding & Finishing – April 2010, New York

Expert Installation, Jigs & Staircase – September 2010, St. Louis, MO

Expert Sanding & Finishing – October 2011, St. Louis, MO

Expert Installation – October 2012, St. Louis, MO

Sand & Finish School at Bona, US – April 2013, Monroe, NC

For me, I take great pride in knowing that the knowledge I learned through my various certifications gives me the opportunity to give my customers a makeover for their home, and by seeing positive reactions from numerous clients, well… that puts a smile on my face.

Stay tuned! More to come in the following weeks!
