Hardwood floors with a natural look have become very popular. The natural finish lets the grain of the wood shine in a simple, clean look that adapts well to a range of decor styles – from contemporary to traditional.
The projects below represent installations completed in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and range in size from 700 sq ft to 1500 sq ft. They focused on refinishing hardwood floors that had originally been site-finished.
These customers were searching for a neutral, organic, earthy look where the natural beauty of the wood surpassed any stain color.

In the image above, notice how in this kitchen the warm natural tones of the wood floors echo the warmth of the travertine backsplash.

Natural Looking Reclaimed Wood Floors Project
Another interesting source of natural-looking hardwood floors is reclaimed wood floors. These are wood planks that have had a previous life in another building and have been preserved so they can be used in new projects.
The images below are from a large remodeling project in a newly purchased house in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The homeowners wanted remilled reclaimed Barnwood installed in the entire first floor of their home, approximately 2000 square feet.

Natural Reclaimed Wood Flooring Details
These reclaimed planks were installed using a nail glue-down installation process.

The planks were pre-finished and measured six inches wide by 10 feet long. These reclaimed barnwood boards – as you can see from the images – feature plenty of open notes, cracks and darker marked whorls. The natural finish combined with the character of the wood created a warm, inviting look that immediately transformed this new house into a home.
